Step into the Wilderness for a week of life-changing adventure! Spruce Lake Wilderness Camp is a Christian resident camp located in northeast Pennsylvania. While on 370 mountainside acres of remote beauty, we are less than 2.5 hours of driving time from cities like Binghamton NY, Danbury CT, Harrisburg PA, New York NY, Newark NJ, and Philadephia PA.
The Wilderness resident camp serves over 1,000 young people (7-18) annually with approximately 140 campers per session. The Off-site Expedition program serves over 100 young people (11-18) with 16 off-site adventures throughout the eastern central U.S. We also offer two Parent-Child Events designed to offer outdoor experiences for a parent and child and exposure to Christian camping.
Spruce Lake Wilderness Camp is a ministry of Spruce Lake Retreat founded in 1963 by Franconia Mennonite Camping Association. We have served tens of thousands of campers and families with the mission, “Using Wilderness Adventures to Point Young People toward Christ." Here are some concepts that support our mission:
- Seeking to select and train a Christ-centered staff team capable of meeting physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the campers they serve; carefully screening and interviewing all prospective staff prior to employment.
- Encouraging spiritual growth and encounters with Jesus Christ through corporate worship, biblical teaching, quiet times, Christian role models, and a Christ-centered atmosphere.
- Creating a dynamic program with activities, schedules, and electives that vary greatly based on the age, interests, and development of the camper.
- Creating an atmosphere or mystique that embodies “Wilderness Adventures” through activities that promote outdoor exploration (canoeing, mountain biking, hiking, etc.) and adventure-based programming (ziplines, cliff rappelling, challenge course, etc.).
- Making camp available to all campers without regard to race, color, nationality or economic circumstance. Providing an affordable camp experience by being stewards of our financial and material resources, seeking donations to subsidize overall camper income, and offering scholarships for approximately 10% of campers.
- Inviting accountability by maintaining accredidation with the American Camping Association and engaging with other national camping associations like Christian Camps and Conference Association USA, and Mennonite Camping Association. Welcoming and soliciting feedback from Wilderness Camp parents, staff, and campers.
