FAQs
Wilderness Camp is Spruce Lake's summer resident camp and off-site expeditions program for youth that operates from mid-June through mid-August. It is our mission to use wilderness adventures to point young people, ages 7-18, towards Christ. This dynamic ministry offers meaningful employment, hands-on experience, opportunities with young people, and an incredible Christ centered community. Wilderness campers want to relate with young adults who are fun but also understanding, level-headed and genuine. They want to see that Christian faith is relevant in today's world!

Summer wages at Wilderness Camp
Summer staff wage potentials range from $90-$250/week with all lodging and meals provided.  The reason why wages vary so much is that you have the opportunity to raise a portion of your wage.

We begin with a base wage for the position that ranges from $90 to $150 and are based on position and prior training and experience.  For example, a senior counselor who has no previous experience will receive a base wage of $110 per week.  This base portion of the wage will be paid every other week as $220.

Our matching program then allows all staff the opportunity to raise an additional $50/week.  Spruce Lake will match every dollar you raise with another dollar allowing you to add up to $100/week extra to a wage once matched.  This portion of the wage will be paid in two lump sums, one in the middle of the summer and one at the end.
Volunteering at Wilderness Camp
Spruce Lake Wilderness Camp is constantly giving camp away for those who cannot afford it and subsidizes the camp tuition of all summer campers.  If you have the opportunity to volunteer your summer in service we would value that more than you know.  We may have the flexibility to work with shorter summer arrangements.  Volunteers still need to be screened like all other staff so the application process still applies.

Former staff persons are welcome to contact us about serving on a short term basis as well.  You may not think a week is much but our staff size needs to adapt to the size of the camper population and camper ratios we uphold.  If you are available in a time of staff need it allows us to offer an incredible program without the overhead of another position.
