Spruce Lake’s Campership Fund was established to provide financial assistance to campers who would otherwise have difficulty paying camp tuition. We guarantee that the Summer Wilderness (overnight) Camp experience be available to every child regardless of ability to pay the full amount. Campership funds come from these sources:
Al and Kass Detweiler Endowment – Al Detweiler was the founding director of Spruce Lake Wilderness Camp, and a key person in developing the vision and the start of the program. He and his wife, Kass, served Wilderness Camp for 25 years.
Derek Todd Casey Endowment – Derek had just experienced a week of camp in 1986 when he lost his life in a car accident. Because of his great love for camp, this fund was established in his memory.
Ernest W. Alderfer Endowment – This fund was set up in 1997 in appreciation of Ernest Alderfer, who had served Spruce Lake as a board member for 30 years (1964-1994).
Wilderness Camp Golf Tournament – Every year this event raises funds for Campership and camp operations.
Friends of Spruce Lake – Individuals, churches and businesses support Wilderness Camp through generous gifts each year.
Campership Guidelines:
A Campership applies to only one session per camper per summer.
The fund cannot cover the bus fee, the tuition deposit, or any other purchases such as the camp store deposit.
If there is church assistance, we ask that the camper family be required to contribute as least $25 of the commitment.
A single Campership may not exceed $300 in one summer.
Financial Aid – Day Camp
We want every child to be able to experience Day Camp! Our Campership Fund provides financial assistance for families who would otherwise have difficulty paying day camp tuition. Participating parents keep telling us what a gift Day Camp has been for their children. The funds are sourced by these supportive local businesses and individuals to ensure that the Day Camp Experience is available for every child:
EZ Mountain Rustic Furniture
Glenn and Sylvia Derstine
Dave and Maryann Trout
Wib and Margaret Zook
Duane Moyer Well Drilling
Campership Guidelines: The fund covers tuition only. (Before & After Care, camp store deposit or any other purchases are not covered.) If there is church assistance, the camper family is asked to contribute a portion of the commitment.
